After a long time of waiting, we have finally had the official introduction of the new BMW 8 Series.
It has to be admitted that the production version of Series 8 does not look as cool and aggressive as the concept version, but it is still one of the most beautiful large coupes on the market. The car is equipped with a huge mask with ribbing, which continues on the roof and comes to the end, aggressive look of the front lights, a huge grill and numerous creases and airflows.
All the hypnotic elements of the conceptual model remained almost unchanged. Of course, we are talking about the beautiful rear lights, the massive spoiler crease at the end of the boot lid and the very visible lines going through the whole body. The interior looks dignified and serious. We will have to wait until the production launch of the BMW M8 for a hint of madness.
Customers can currently choose between two drive units. The M850i xDrive has a 4.4-litre double-charged V8 that generates 523 horsepower (390 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters). The power is transmitted to all wheels through an 8-speed automatic transmission. In this version we will need 3.7 seconds to drive from 0 to 60 mph, and the maximum speed is limited to 155 miles per hour (250 kilometers per hour).
The second engine variant is the 840d xDrive, which is a 3-litre, double turbocharged 315 hp (235 kW) diesel engine with 502 pound-feet (680 Newton-meters) of maximum torque. In this version, too, the drive is transmitted to all wheels and an 8-speed machine is responsible for this. The time from 0 to 60 mph extends to 4.9 seconds and the maximum speed remains unchanged.
The BMW 8 Series will make its European debut in November and it will arrives in the United States this fall. Further variants are on the way, including, of course, the announced cabrio and M8 versions.
