Sports coupe will join Mazda’s range soon together with a completely new Wankel engine.
Production of the legendary Mazda RX-8 was completed in 2012 and since then the Japanese manufacturer doesn’t offer any coupe or other car with a Wankel type engine. This is about to change, as the engineers are currently working on a completely new Mazda RX-9.
The car will be positioned much higher than the MX-5, placing it at Audi A5 level. It will have a bodywork maintained in Kodo’s design language, which, as we can see on the images, fits perfectly with this sporty coupe. The Mazda RX-9 will have a front engine and rear-wheel drive. This will allow you to get very good driving characteristics as well as incredible driving experiences.
The new generation of Wankel’s engine, which will make its debut in the successor of Mazda RX-8, will probably be called SkyActiv-R. Mazda has still not officially announced the return of the classic unit, but not so long ago a patent for a new rotary engine appeared.
The premiere of the Mazda RX-9 will still take time. Japanese representatives are still silent about the project, so it should be assumed that the car will make its first debut at the end of 2020.
