Volkswagen has just written into the pages of history of the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The race car I.D. R has broken the record for electric cars and is the third fastest car ever.
Romain Dumas was seated behind the wheel of the electric Volkswagen I.D. R. He managed to pass the track in just 43.05 seconds, which gave him a new record for electric cars. During the second run, measured in the overall classification, Romain Dumas reached 43.86 seconds, which turned out to be enough to take the 3rd place among the fastest runs in the history of the FOS.
Second position has been held since 2003 by Graeme Wight, Jr., who driven the Gould GR51 in 42.90 seconds. First place is occupied by Nick Heidfeld, who has been able to secure 41.60 seconds in the F1 car and has not been beaten since 1999.
It is possible that Volkswagen will also receive an award for the fastest result this year. There are still a few hours left before the end of this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
