A deserving successor to the BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is coming to challenge Porsche Panamera again.
The BMW has made a successful debut with the brand’s new 8-series, which has been warmly welcomed by the brand’s fans and promises to be a new hit for the German manufacturer.
The car looks beautiful and its aggressive body line fits perfectly into the current model range. The 8 Series will soon be extended with new versions, the first of which will be the 5-door Gran Coupe. It will be the direct successor to the 6 Series Gran Coupe, which is now leaving the market.
As we can see on the render and spy photos (available at the bottom), the car has not lost its charm and still looks amazing. It promises to be the debut of a major competitor for Porsche Panamer and the new Mercedes-Benz CLS.
Similar to the Coupe version shown, there will be two drive units under the hood of the 5-door Gran Coupe at the start – the M850i xDrive and the 840d xDrive.
The petrol variety is 4.4-litre V8 with double recharge, which generates 523 hp and 750 Nm. The drive is transmitted to all wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The second engine variant features a 3-litre, double turbocharged diesel engine with 315 hp and 680 Nm of maximum torque under the hood. In this version, the drive is also transmitted to all wheels and an 8-speed machine is also responsible for this.
In terms of performance, Gran Coupe is likely to be slightly slower than Coupe. This means that a sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) will take approx. 3.8 seconds in the M850i and approx. 5 seconds in the 840d xDrive. The maximum speed shall be limited electronically to 155 mph (250 km/h).
In the future, the Series 8 range will be completed with a Cabrio variant and a top M8 version with a 4.4-litre M5 engine of 600 hp (441 kW) and 750 Nm.
